P7A - Publish 'Structures of the Earth' work on the Web

From October until December 2009, P7a have been discovering about the Structures of the Earth.
To help support this learning, they have been working in groups to create volcanoes, earthquake resistant houses, movies, posters, podcasts, comic books, video and audio messages as well as composing their own music and songs.

Where possible the results of P7a fabulous work have been posted onto the Internet for others to enjoy. Use the links below to enjoy.

Movies about the Structure of the Earth
This is P7a premiere movie.
Structures of the Earth - Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ul6kYjBWd8

Structures of the Earth - Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc1aNIoJ6NQ

(Note due to a maximum length of 10 minutes for a video in YouTube, the video has been divided into two sections).
The pupils created movies (via iMovie) based on the theme of Earthquakes and Volcanoes, (using pictures from Google Images, which we gratefully acknowledge) they then composed accompanying music in GarageBand. The final movies were then merged to create a class movie.

Exploding Volcanoes
The pupils constructed 3D volcano models for homework. The models were labelled to show the features of a volcano.

You can see some of our volcanoes at http://picasaweb.google.com/buckstonep7a/Public_volcanoes#

We really enjoyed exploding some of them on the last day of term in the snow.

Dynamic Earth Fe
edback
The pupils were very fortunate to be able to visit Dynamic Earth on the 25th November. They greatly enjoyed the experience providing the opportunity to expand their knowledge about the Structures of the Earth in a fabulous learning environment. The children were tasked with finding different ways to feedback to Dynamic Earth about their visit, with a key focus on the information we wanted to feedback. These photographs capture many of the ideas.

Feedback Podcast

A song of the pupils experience has been loaded at http://www.gcast.com/u/buckstonep7a/main.xml

Auld Lang Syne - Lyrics

There are numerous versions of this well known song/peom.

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and days of Auld Lang Syne?

For Auld Lang Syne, my dear,
For Auld Lang Syne,
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For Auld Lang Syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere
And gie's a hand o' thine
We'll tak' a richt guid willy waught,
For Auld Lang Syne.

For Auld Lang Syne, my dear,
For Auld Lang Syne,
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For Auld Lang Syne.

See point 5 on, which discusses the various words used.

Rock Detective Videos

The following videos will be useful in helping you in your role as Rock Detective.

Remember you want to find

3 main groups of rock
  • describe their features
  • how they are formed (where they come from, role of temperature, pressure etc)
  • examples of rock type in the group
  • what these rocks might be used for and why (strength, if permeable or not etc)

The Needles

Based in the isle of Wight The Needles are a beautiful sight. They come about when the little island broke off the bottom of England. The isle of Wight is made of chalk so it all eroded and that is how the Needles came about!

I would recommend it!!!
thanks for reading I hope you visit there in the future!!!

  • well our class our doing a project on the earth structure.
  • The earth is made of lots of layers.
  • It is a bit like a egg the shell is the crust, the next layer is the mantle, and the middle is the core.

Naturally Made

Learning about the structure of the earth is really interesting.
We have learnt that Niagara Falls, Ayers Rock,The Rocky Mountains,Mount Everest etc
are all naturally made by rain, wind, sand etc.
Top 5 Facts about Volcanoes + Earthquakes!!!
1.lava is called magma when it is inside the earth.
2.earthquakes can make buildings fall and people can get hit and die.
3.Edinburgh castle is a volcano..
4.there are no volcanoes in the UK.
5.earthquakes are very destructive
I hope that you have found my facts interesting!!!

P7A - World War 2 Presentations

The pupils were tasked with investigating an aspect of the home front. Working in pairs they looked at:
  • The Role of Women
  • Gas Masks and Blackouts
  • Air Raid Shelters
  • Evacuation
  • Rationing
To report back to the class on their findings the children used various methods, which included:
  • Acting out scenarios from the Second World War
  • Using animations created on video
  • Presenting via a news broadcast / 'weather 'forecast
  • Using music
  • Using audio created on garageband
  • Posters
  • Quizzes
  • Humour
This shows the class took a wide and diverse approach to this task. In many cases the pupils also supported their reporting back with a PowerPoint Presentation. These may be viewed by following the links below. Unfortunately, the functionality of Google Docs (where these files are hosted) does not present the 'fully' developed show, ie sounds and order of display are not shown.

Enjoy.

1940 Fact

77 evacuated children were killed when the ship City of Benares (which was evacuating them) was torpedoed.

Wednesday 16 September 2009

I am learning about WW2. Here is some facts about WW2:

After the war, some children didn't return home until March !

When children were evacuated they had to bring more handkerchiefs than underwear!

Rationing

Great website for war information. For example 524 000 mothers and children under 5 were evacuated.
http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/Homework/war

Here is a picture of a car crashing in to a shop in the blackout. Did you know that more than 4000 people died in road accidents in the blackout than being bombed by Nazis.

Evacuation was an adventure for some but a nightmare for others.
Did you know over 1 million children got evacuated.Parents were given a list to pack for their child. Many children lived in big cities and had to move to the countryside.Evacuation began on the 1st of September 1939.there was major evacuation between 1939-1945 !

blackouts

  • Blackouts occurred so they wouldn't get bombed by the Germans because they couldn't see them.
  • A blackout was when you cover up your windows so no light gets through.
  • Even policemen stole stuff from your house when you were in your Anderson shelter.

I'm doing the Role of Women in World War II.

Hello! I am learning about the Role of Women in World War II. It is very interesting.

scran

yo peeps this is a groovy picture!
  • This is a picture of rationing.
  • They could only buy a certain amount of meat and other food.
  • People used to have to spend a lot of time queuing for food.
  • Some mum's had a green ration book to get luxuries like oranges and chocolate.
  • Postcard of Sweet Rationing Ends. Click to view full image (new window)
These women are at work at ww2!
Most women worked at factories and shops by the end of 1939 most men by then had taken the better jobs.
They only got 5 shillings (25p) a week.
They also worked on farms.

gas masks

GAS MASKS
  • Gas masks were issued by the government in case of gas attacks by Germans.
  • Gas suits were made for children who were too small for gas masks.
  • Gas masks had to have been kept in a special box and if you are caught outside without it you could get fined
here's a picture of a gas mask:

Reminder of how to use the BLOG

Good morning P7a.

You should treat the blog the same way that you look after your jotters and write information in them.

For example:
Always use correct punctuation.
Always check your work.
Always target your work so you are proud to show others.
Always try your hardest to achieve the lesson target.
Always make sure you enter details relevant to the project.

Remember you can always save your work as 'draft' to allow you to check it prior to 'publishing' it.

Let's review the Blog and see if these rules have been adhered to.

Adding Internet Links

Just Cut and Paste in the URL (Web Address), then highlight the text and select the LINK (or chain) button.

To add a photo is a little more complex.
